City Council authorizes preservation restrictions on two properties

Lowell City Council approves preservation restrictions on two properties. The Council voted unanimously 9-0 to authorize preservation restrictions at 228 Worthen Street and 80 Gorham Street. The Council also unanimously approved out-of-state travel for the Lowell Police Department, with Councilors Mercier and Robinson absent.
The Council processed 11 National Grid utility petitions; nine received public hearings and referral to the Wire Inspector following second reading, while six new petitions received first reading and were scheduled for public hearing February 24. Council members proposed 11 motions requesting City Manager reports on topics including local wetland protection bylaws, pedestrian safety near UMass Lowell, tree committee planning, Boott Hydropower relicensing impacts, parking mitigation for residents, winter operations procedures, and FY27 budget planning.
