City Council names Pawtucket Street section Meehan Way

Lowell City Council names Pawtucket Street Meehan Way. The council unanimously approved the street designation from Aiken Avenue to Salem Street in honor of UMass Lowell President Martin T. Meehan after Councillor McDonough proposed an amendment to the original boundaries.
Mayor Gitschier highlighted President Meehan's many accomplishments for the city during discussion. The council also voted unanimously to accept deeds for properties at 251 Church Street and 60 Clairmont Street, approved a $2,000 Walmart grant for the Fire Department, and authorized the City Manager to execute the Annual Action Plan for fiscal years 2026-2027.
