LOWELL — The Council on Aging Advisory Board held its monthly meeting to address Senior Center operations and an unresolved lease dispute. The board unanimously approved prior minutes and learned that the Senior Center's original 20-year lease has expired with more than one million dollars owed to owner Nick Sarris. Chairperson Maxine Farkas reported the board remains in limbo pending resolution, noting that 26,000 seniors in Lowell receive insufficient attention.
Director Kim Gagnon reported spending $4,000 weekly on food, with only the exercise program "On The Move" generating revenue. The board delayed the Open Doors event to next year pending facility repairs, and discussed whether the Friends organization or the city should fund Senior Center programming.
