LOWELL — Commission votes down alcohol service extension. The License Commission rejected a proposal to extend on-premises alcohol service hours by one hour, voting 2-3 against accepting temporary state provisions that would have allowed 3 AM closing times. Five bar and restaurant owners spoke in favor, including representatives of Tesco bar and Sahel Lounge, but Lowell Police Superintendent Hudon made no recommendation and the commission lacked a majority to advance the change.

In other business, the commission unanimously approved permits for five summer events including the Lowell Folk Festival, Kinetic Sculpture Race, Southeast Asian Water Festival, and two religious worship series at Kerouac and Shedd parks, as well as two restaurant license modifications.
