The City of Lowell, working with the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game, opened a new urban mini forest and pollinator meadow in the Centralville neighborhood, adding a pocket of green space and wildlife habitat to one of the city's most densely populated areas.

TOWN HALL

City officials said the new site is intended to increase biodiversity and give residents in Centralville more everyday access to nature, according to a News Flash release posted by the city on Aug. 25, 2026. The mini forest and adjoining pollinator meadow are meant to function as a small-scale natural habitat within a fully built urban neighborhood, part of a broader effort by the state's Department of Fish and Game to bring green infrastructure into cities.

The release framed the project as a chance for Centralville residents, many of whom live amid a dense mix of housing with limited private green space, to experience woodland and meadow habitat close to home. The city's announcement did not specify the site's exact size, plant selections, or total cost.
