Lowell School Committee adopted the DESE Protect Act policy, passed 5-0 with two absences, implementing Governor Maura Healey's August 5 mandate on civil law enforcement access to schools. The policy bars civil arrests on school grounds without Judicial Warrant or Order, with limited exceptions. Lowell implemented preliminary procedures in Spring 2025.
The Committee also approved home education for Tuyet Tran and Lisa Veiga; a $12,000 budget modification; and student-staff travel to AFJROTC, CCSSO National Teacher of the Year, and Portrait of a Graduate conferences. A proposed $3.45 million five-year Chromebook technology lease remains under discussion with further deliberation needed before a vote.
