Lowell Sustainability Council hears open space plan update with first dedicated budget. Design planner Jess Wilson presented the city's 10-year Open Space and Recreation Plan, which encompasses 90 or more parks, 700 acres of open space, and more than 8 miles of trails. The Council also formed a subcommittee—Mikaela Hondros-McCarthy, Wiliana Aquino, and AnaCristina—to expand the student climate competition resource guide with data centers, battery storage, and nuclear energy.
The plan will proceed with $150,000 in dedicated funding, the first significant budget allocation to the planning process, addressing inequitable park distribution through consultant BSC Group.
