School Committee · Meeting of April 15, 2026

Lowell School Committee approves Finance and Operations budget of $6.95 million after targeted cuts. The Committee voted to reduce computer hardware by $300,000 and eliminate two part-time computer technician positions worth $52,416, with Superintendent Liam Skinner and Dr. Pinto explaining that the original hardware increase was necessary for technology refresh.

Fifteen residents spoke during public comment expressing concerns about proposed position cuts. The Committee unanimously restored the Director of Technology position from Abeyance and approved an Instructional Leadership bottom line of $3.79 million after the Fine Arts Chair position was reinstated. A motion to approve the $115.4 million Teaching Staff budget failed 2-4 after members requested further information on proposed reductions to multilingual learner teaching positions.
