Subcommittee reviews literacy program rollout across K-8 schools.

LOWELL — The Curriculum & Instruction Subcommittee assessed the Lowell schools' rollout of the ARC Foundational Skills reading program. Chairperson Connie Martin and members Fred Bahou and Eileen DelRossi heard from Dr. Oneida Fox Roye that five schools have adopted ARC while others delayed until next year; PRISM classroom observations of 47 K-8 classrooms showed improvements in instructional practices and text quality.

Five staff members voiced concerns about implementation and insufficient professional development. Chairperson Martin committed to scheduling another meeting to discuss a stronger professional development plan.
