Veterans Commission plans Memorial Day at new park, scouts school letters for recognition program

Veteran's Commission · Meeting of March 11, 2026

Lowell Veterans Commission schedules Memorial Day event and seeks veteran recognition letters from schoolchildren. Chairman Paul Paradise said he will invite the School Committee to support a letter-writing campaign from local students about their favorite veterans, which will be displayed at commission events and in the Veterans Recognition Program. Eric LaMarche, Director of Veterans' Services, reported that coordination for the May 22 Memorial Day event at the new Veterans Park on Douglas Road is underway, with the Gold Star Mother of Lowell to lay a wreath, ROTC participation confirmed, and the State Police Horse Mounted Honor Guard under pursuit by Chairman Paradise.

The commission also discussed a 4th of July parade celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary, with backup plans to arrange muscle car or limousine escorts for veterans if street closures prove impractical.
