Veterans Commission plans Memorial Day ceremony and discusses expanded summer events

Veteran's Commission · Meeting of May 13, 2026

LOWELL — Veterans Commission approves Memorial Day ceremony plans and eyes summer programming expansion. Chairman Paul Paradise announced the Bridge Club of Lowell's purchase and remodeling of a convent building to house 30 apartments for veterans in need, while Vet Center Director Elisabeth Parrott briefed members on readjustment counseling, behavioral health, crisis intervention, and employment services. The commission unanimously approved April minutes and secured the Mayor's Reception Room for its June 10 meeting after the Lowell Telecommunication Center was damaged by a water leak.

Summer events under discussion include a July 4 muscle car procession for veterans and a Hockey Night fundraiser at UMass Lowell to benefit Walter Reed National Medical Center.
