Lowell Historic Board Unanimously Approves Ten-Unit Townhouse Project in the Acre

LOWELL — May 12, 2025 — Lowell Historic Board approves ten-unit townhouse development in the Acre neighborhood. The board voted unanimously Monday to grant historic district permit ND-25-02 to developer David Daly of 40 Lillian Street, clearing the way for two multi-unit residential buildings — a six-unit rear structure and a four-unit street-facing building — on a previously undeveloped lot. Daly said the all-for-sale, three-bedroom units will use LP engineered wood siding, simulated divided light windows, and a real cultured-stone masonry veneer, materials he described as significantly more expensive than vinyl alternatives but far superior in appearance. A city planning staff member told the board the project is consistent with years of urban renewal work in the Acre, noting that similar infill housing on Rock Street had already improved that streetscape. The board also elected new officers, choosing George as chair and Jeffrey as vice chair after postponing the vote at the opening of the meeting for lack of quorum.
