Lowell holds first-ever drone show for MonsterBash and Fall Fest
The Lowell Bicentennial Committee funded the city's first-ever drone show, held above downtown during MonsterBash and Fall Fest, which drew more than 6,000 people on Merrimack Street.
Lowell's MonsterBash and Fall Fest drew more than 6,000 people downtown this year, highlighted by the city's first-ever drone show, the Town of Lowell announced.
Hundreds of drones flew above downtown Lowell, projecting the city's 200-year history in the sky as part of the bicentennial celebration. The Lowell Bicentennial Committee, which has raised about $1 million from private donors for this year's events, funded the show. The committee also sponsored the city's largest-ever fireworks display earlier this year.
The drone display depicted well-known landmarks, including The Sun building, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, St. Patrick's Church and the Ouellette Bridge, while narrating the city's history.
MonsterBash and Fall Fest, held annually through a partnership between the City of Lowell and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Lowell, featured carnival rides, a haunted house and trick-or-treating at downtown businesses. Musical performers included Jim Plunkett, Fearless: the Taylor Swift Experience, and Booty Vortex. Merrimack Street was closed to allow trick-or-treaters to visit downtown businesses, and the release reported no major incidents during the event.
City Manager Thomas A. Golden Jr. thanked those who organized the celebration. "I want to thank everyone who made MonsterBash and Fall Fest possible again this year, in particular the Kiwanis Club of Greater Lowell and the Lowell Bicentennial Committee," he said in the release. "It was beautiful to see so many smiling children and adults enjoying the season and experiencing our first drone show. What a spectacular day!"
