Lowell School Committee Approves $271.5 Million FY2026 Budget After Correction

LOWELL — May 24, 2025 — Lowell School Committee votes 5-2 to approve a corrected $271,489,114 FY2026 school budget at a special Saturday session. The committee had left its May 21 budget hearing with a plan that was over target after restoring several positions without making offsetting cuts. The superintendent brought a five-part amendment that reduced the budget by $364,853: $140,000 by eliminating a vacant director of English language services position and $224,873 from the STS suspense account. "It is the budgeted amount — no more or no less," the superintendent said. The final figure now goes to the city manager for inclusion in the city's overall spending plan.
