Lowell School Committee Approves $271.5 Million FY2026 Budget After Correction
LOWELL -- May 24, 2025, Lowell School Committee votes 5-2 to approve a corrected $271,489,114 FY2026 school budget at a special Saturday session. The committee had left its May 21 budget hearing with a plan that was over target after restoring several positions without making offsetting cuts. The superintendent brought a five-part amendment that reduced the budget by $364,853: $140,000 by eliminating a vacant director of English language services position and $224,873 from the STS suspense account. "It is the budgeted amount, no more or no less," the superintendent said. The final figure now goes to the city manager for inclusion in the city's overall spending plan.
