Lowell Veterans Commission Adopts Resolution Honoring Korean War Veteran, Plans Fall Restart

LOWELL — June 11, 2025 — Lowell Veterans Commission hears housing pitch, honors Korean War veteran before summer recess. Acting Chair Paul Paradise convened the commission's final meeting before a September resumption, receiving a presentation from Lowell Housing Authority Deputy Director Mark Pier and Chief Admissions Officer Allison Patel, who reported 121 veterans currently housed in public developments, nine on Section 8, and 154 on the waiting list — against a portfolio of just five federally funded VASH vouchers, which the authority said are fully allocated. Patel offered staff training on the application preference system and flagged two upcoming projects: a 118-unit Marramax Street corridor development and the pending Hadley House, which would add three to five units exclusively for veterans pending state land-transfer approval. The commission unanimously adopted a resolution honoring recently deceased Korean War veteran and city Local Heroes awardee Mr. Barry, and discussed formalizing a quarterly or monthly veteran recognition program in coordination with city Veterans Liaison Eric Lamage.
