Lowell School Committee approves motion on combined facilities department. Mayor Gitschier moved to request that the school committee facilities subcommittee meet with the City Council facility subcommittee to discuss creation of a combined facilities department, apologizing for a home rule petition and stating his desire for alignment; the motion passed 5-0. The Committee also approved three other motions addressing financial rewards guidance, reading program updates, and Friday attendance reporting, and accepted FY26 grants funding and a $480,000 budget modification.
Superintendent Liam Skinner reported that Lowell Public Schools served 530,323 breakfasts from August through December 2025, and is projected to receive a 5.54 percent increase in state Chapter 70 aid for FY27.
