Lowell Historical Commission Unanimously Approves 20th ArtUp Mural Downtown

LOWELL — August 11, 2025 — Lowell's historical commission unanimously approved the city's 20th ArtUp Lowell mural, "Lumen Legacy," for the parking garage at 100 Market Street. The commission granted conditional approval at its August 11 meeting for the work by Oakland-based Filipino artist Allison Hume, whose clients have included Adobe, the NBA, and Estee Lauder. Autumn Kleiner, senior development manager at Project Learn and ArtUp Lowell's staff coordinator, presented the project, which is funded in part through the city's ARPA public art program and is slated for installation in September. Mural curator Ellen Kaza told the board the team specifically sought a female artist for the site, which faces the Market Mills and aligns with Miko Kaufman's "Homage to Women" sculpture nearby. Peter Crew of the city's Office of Cultural Affairs offered the city's endorsement, saying the application met all requirements. Approval is conditional on final staff review of dimensions, materials, and any interpretive signage before work begins.
