LOWELL — The Lowell Veterans Commission voted unanimously to put $500 toward a memorial wall funding shortfall and set plans for a new plaque honoring a fallen Lowell soldier. A representative identified as Mr. Panagiotakis, of the Lowell Bicentennial Fundraising Committee, told the panel his group is funding a plaque for Army Private First Class John F.

Landry Jr., a Lowell Catholic graduate killed outside Baghdad in 2007, to be unveiled at the city's Veterans Day program. A member said the Lowell Vet Center's recent memorial wall display came up "short about $2,500," prompting the $500 contribution. The commission also disclosed that members James Harman and Nayeli Pimentel did not renew their appointments, leaving three vacancies, and confirmed Wreaths Across America will bring a mobile education van to next year's Veterans Day event "free of charge." Members also planned appearances at Trunk or Treat on October 27 and the City of Lights Parade on November 28.
