LOWELL — The Lowell Parks Subcommittee ended season-long field permits and settled a years-long scheduling fight between two cricket leagues. Board members approved roughly 19 permits in all, including a $400 permit for a league identified as Hadel's and three separate date blocks totaling $925 for a rival league led by Sabine, while denying a fourth overlapping request outright. The board also approved a $225 permit for a UMass Lowell poetry reading in Kerouac Park marking poet Allen Ginsberg's centennial, and tabled a resident's proposal for a self-service food donation box in the same park until September, with one member saying, "I don't want to have people all of a sudden fighting over it." Members heard that a federally mandated sewer project will temporarily block a McPherson Park entrance after Labor Day, and voted to cancel their November and December meetings, meeting only in an emergency.

"Whatever you got this year up until August, that's what I'm going to continue for the rest of the year," one board member told the cricket leagues.
