LOWELL — The Lowell License Commission suspended Tesco Bar's liquor license for three days after a brawl left a police officer unconscious. Commissioners voted 5-0 to find the Middlesex Street club, run under license manager Ernesto Lugo, violated rules on managing crowds and admitting intoxicated patrons during a July 26 melee in which a 20-year-old patron named Linton punched Officer Betancourt unconscious. The department's attorney, calling it the venue's third compliance hearing in six months, sought a 30-day rollback of hours to 11 p.m.; commissioners instead ordered a three-day closure set for September 25-27.

Lugo testified "there's no blood test or breathalyzer" proving intoxication, while his security chief denied telling officers fights broke out inside. The commission separately found Tesco Bar violated notification rules for a June 28 event advertised to 14-year-olds.
