LOWELL — The Lowell Veterans Commission returned from summer break and finalized plans for a crowded fall calendar while flagging a funding gap for an anniversary memorial. Outreach specialist Tiffany Lever told members the Lowell Vet Center's October 9 ceremony marking 25 years since the start of the Global War on Terror will move to the Senior Center's Great Hall, with the VAU Fallen Heroes Memorial still roughly $2,500 short of its travel costs despite a $500 VFW check and Billerica's VFW covering half of the roughly $6,000 total. "We have reached out to a few community partners to gather support," Lever said.

The commission voted unanimously to recognize Lowell High ROTC cadet Kayla Rivera, who performed CPR to save her young cousin, and approved its June 10 minutes. Members also tabled a Facebook page pending city legal review and pushed their November 11 meeting to November 18 over a venue conflict.
